A man robbed a Hammond gas station at gunpoint Thursday morning for the second time this month, according to police.
About 5:20 a.m. Thursday, the man entered the Ridgeway Mobil station at 1400 Indianapolis Blvd., pulled out a handgun, and demanded money and Newport cigarettes, according to Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda.
He was given money and cigarettes, then left on foot, Hoyda said. No one was injured.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a white Ace-type bandage over his face, Hoyda said. He also has a gap between two of his front teeth.
The suspect is thought to have robbed the same station of money and Newport cigarettes at gunpoint at 5:50 a.m. June 12, Hoyda said. During that robbery, the suspect wore a white “I❤ Chicago” sweatshirt.
A $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect has been posted at the gas station, Hoyda said.
Anyone with information should call Hammond police at (219) 852-2906.
