An 85-year-old Southwest Side woman was killed in a crash Saturday evening near a casino in northwest Indiana.
About 7:15 p.m., Dana Lukauskas was sitting in the passenger seat of a red 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt making a left turn from southbound Indianapolis Boulevard onto eastbound Casino Center Drive, when the car struck a northbound black 2006 Chrysler 300, according to Hammond police and the Lake County coroner’s office. The crash happened near the Horseshoe Hammond Casino.
Lukauskas’ 82-year-old husband was driving the Cobalt and disregarded a red light when he attempted the left turn, police said. The front end of the Chrysler 300 struck the Cobalt’s passenger side.
Lukauskas, of the 2700 block of West 71st Street, was unresponsive at the scene. She was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond, where she was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m., authorities said.
She suffered blunt force trauma in the crash and her death was ruled an accident, the coroner’s office said.
Lukauskas’s husband complained of chest pain after the crash and was also taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital, police said. They were both wearing their seat belts.
The driver of the Chrysler 300, a 20-year-old man from Chicago, was not injured, police said. He had two passengers at the time of the crash, two men ages 22 and 23, who were not taken to the hospital.
