A 23-year-old Hammond woman was killed in what police said was an accidental shooting Saturday afternoon in the northwest Indiana city.
Megan Jaronski died just after 1 p.m. at Franciscan St. Margaret Health after a handgun went off inside the car she was in, according to Hammond police and the Lake County, Indiana, coroner’s office, which said it happened in the 4700 block of Hohman Avenue.
The gun was legally purchased, according to the police, who said detectives were questioning a man Saturday night but hadn’t filed any charges.
